Posted in Family Vacation, airlines, luggage by Fun Family Travel Vacation on the November 15th, 2008

Airline travelers are finding different ways to deal with the added cost of the baggage fees from various airlines. The baggage fee has some air travelers packing lighter.

A recent AAA Travel Pulse™ survey showed 55 percent of travelers said they will cut back on what they pack so they only have to check one bag, and 23 percent said they will try to fit everything into a carry-on bag to avoid paying fees all together.

It is important to know beforehand what the current baggage fee is for the airline you are traveling with beforehand.

Keep Kids Entertained with Portable DVD Players as You Travel

Posted in Family Vacation, Kids by Fun Family Travel Vacation on the September 25th, 2008

Technology has its advantages and parents can take advantage of them as they travel. One thing that worries parents traveling with young children is how to keep kids entertained as they travel. Portable DVD players are is one thing that parents can use to distract children and make the traveling experience more pleasant. Of course we do believe that the vacation should be a time to get away from TV and enjoy the experience together, but for long trips we all know that children can become bored easily and sometimes a little unruly. For those times, you might consider putting in a DVD into your portable DVD player and entertaining the children. The DVD player does not need to be on constantly. You can play the movie and then use the other times to talk to your child about the trip or other things on your little one’s mind.

With so many other things needing our financial attention, vacations, which have been a staple of the American summer is being placed on the back burner. Many major travel destinations know that visitors are down and are having different deals to bring in financial weary vacationers.

Staying close to home this year is one option that people have for cutting back on the cost of travel. Gas prices are not just pinching families directly, but also when it comes time to fly. Airlines are losing lots of money as the cost of fuel has seen a huge increase. There are many ways that airlines have been trying to cut their cost and that has been passed on to the consumers.

Consumes now have to keep their eyes out and look for ways to have an enjoyable vacation while not going into a huge debt.

Technology Aimed to Help with Long Lines at the Airport

Posted in Family Vacation by Fun Family Travel Vacation on the December 16th, 2007

The airports don not like the long lines that build up at the airport check points as much as the travelers do. One way that airports are aiming to help reduce the wait and long lines is the use of new technology in examining baggage. These new baggage scanning machines are supposed to be able to give a more thorough scan of the passenger baggage and then reduce the need for luggage to have to be opened and examined.

Stay Healthy as You Travel for Thanksgiving

Posted in Family Vacation, Thanksgiving by Fun Family Travel Vacation on the November 21st, 2007

Many families will be traveling this Thanksgiving holiday ;either by airplane, bus, train, or car. With all that traveling and contact with many different people there is risk of picking up germs.

One of my favorite episodes of “Everybody Loves Raymond” was when a man sneezed on Raymond at the airport. After that sneeze he felt like he was coming down with something. After telling his mom about the sneeze she told him that it was the airport and who knows what he has now. Well Raymond had strep throat .

Although people do not always sneeze in you face there are still opportunities to pick up a cold or flu bug. One important way to stay healthy as you travel is to remember wash you hands. Although this has been preached from the medical community for years it is surprising how many people do not wash their hand , even after using the restroom.

Also you try to get plenty of rest. I know you are saying “yea right.” Traveling sometimes leaves us with the least amount of time to rest, but get some downtime during all the travelling. Another important things is to not stress. Seeing family during Thanksgiving can sometimes be stressful, but you can try to avoid those topics that end up leading to a family shouting match.

Hoping you having a happy and healthy Thanksgiving Day.

Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival

Posted in Disney Vacation, Family Vacation, Theme Parks by Fun Family Travel Vacation on the May 30th, 2007

The Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival has a lot of flower power for those that love flowers. This festival has been around since 1993 and has had a lot of staying power. In 2007 the show moves to a 60 days and features many different plant, and special events.

In May there are two events running concurrently with the Flower Fest; a Mother’s day celebration along with a Cinco de Mayo celebration.

Those who love gardening would delight in attending this festival and seeing all the beautiful plants and flowers. You will not only get to view the beauty, but also learn to grow and care for beautiful plants of your own. Celebrity guest speakers, and gardening experts will be there to give advice and tips. Guests will be able to attend hands-on seminars, and planting demonstrations.

Minnie’s Magnificent Butterfly Garden is back with hundreds of butterflies in a walk-through screened enclosure that will include a live exhibit showing how caterpillars form a chrysalis and emerge as butterflies. The family-oriented Growing Future Gardeners area, complete with colorful (and tasty) planting ideas for kids and parents, doubles in size this year following an overwhelming response during its 2006 debut.

This year’s Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival runs from April 5-June 3 2007
