Beginning in April on Norwegian Jewel and this summer on Norwegian Epic, Nickelodeon and Norwegian experiences for the entire family will include: character meet and greets; interactive game shows; and more. Each cruise will feature live Nickelodeon-themed interactive shows, including: SlimeTime LIVE! with Nick’s signature slime; Nick Live! Poolside entertainment; character breakfasts and meet and greets; Nick-themed dance parties; and more. Nickelodeon-themed elements will also be incorporated into Norwegian’s Kids’ Crew program.

Disney Cruises-Kids Get to Have Things Their Way

Posted in Disney,Family Cruise,Family Vacation,Kids, travel by Fun Family Travel Vacation on the January 11th, 2010

Disney Cruises have decided to redo the way what kids can eat and activities they can participate in during the cruise vacation. Before activities and food choices were segmented by age group. Now Children can choose the activities and food without the age group restrictions.

On Disney Cruise Line, children can personalize their cruise vacation by selecting activities and events, regardless of age. Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab are open to children age 3 to 12 on the Disney Wonder and age 3 to 10 on the Disney Magic.

While Disney Cruise Line will continue to recommend activities that appeal to specific maturity levels and ages, the entire menu of offerings is open to every child. With this evolutionary approach to shipboard youth activities, children and parents choose programs based on the specific interests of each child to create a customized and very personalized experience. Best of all, children of different ages — siblings, extended family and friends — can participate in youth activities together throughout their cruise.

The majority of children’s events and free-time activities occur within dedicated youth spaces on the ship and on Castaway Cay. As always, Disney Cruise Line youth activities are supervised by specially trained, experienced counselors.

Specific program information is available to guests on the day of check-in at the Youth Activities registration desk located in the Disney cruise ship terminal building prior to boarding, or onboard in the Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab.

Tantrum Throwing Tot Gets Thrown Off Plane

Posted in Kids, airlines by Fun Family Travel Vacation on the November 1st, 2009

A mom and her 2 year-old son were kicked off a Southwest Airlines plane because he was fussing when the crew were giving their safety message.    This story made me look back at when my children were two.   She was dealing with a 2 year-old and most parents know that it is called the “Terrible Twos” for a reason.   Pamela Root and her son were travelling from Amarillo, Texas to San Jose California when she was asked to leave the plane.

Root says she was confident Adam’s screams of “Go! Plane! Go!” and “I want Daddy!” would subside after the plane took off Monday in Amarillo, Texas.

She had to spend the night in Amarillo and purchased a travel crib and extra diapers for the extra night stay in Amarillo.  Southwest Airlines issued an apology, gave her a refund, and a $300 travel voucher.  She would like to also be compensated for the travel crib and extra diapers.

I wonder if she was holding her breath when she and her son were boarding the plane the next day to go home.

Keep Kids Entertained with Portable DVD Players as You Travel

Posted in Family Vacation,Kids by Fun Family Travel Vacation on the September 25th, 2008

Technology has its advantages and parents can take advantage of them as they travel. One thing that worries parents traveling with young children is how to keep kids entertained as they travel. Portable DVD players are is one thing that parents can use to distract children and make the traveling experience more pleasant. Of course we do believe that the vacation should be a time to get away from TV and enjoy the experience together, but for long trips we all know that children can become bored easily and sometimes a little unruly. For those times, you might consider putting in a DVD into your portable DVD player and entertaining the children. The DVD player does not need to be on constantly. You can play the movie and then use the other times to talk to your child about the trip or other things on your little one’s mind.
